BURN PERMITS

 Before conducting any outdoor burning, a burn permit is required by Maine law.

When You Need a Burn Permit:

  • Brush or debris piles
  • Campfires outside of designated fire pits
  • Any open flame not in a fireplace or grill
    How to Obtain a Permit:
  • Online: Maine Burn Permit Portal


Burning Safety Tips:

  • Only burn natural, untreated wood
  • Never burn on windy days
  • Always keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby
  • Never leave a fire unattended
     

Reminder: Unauthorized or unsafe burning may result in fines or fire suppression charges.

 Our department proudly provides:

  • Fire suppression and emergency response
  • Medical first response support
  • Mutual aid to neighboring towns
  • Support for community events and local safety programs
  • Annual testing and maintenance of fire hydrants
     

Our Team:
The department is staffed by trained volunteers certified in firefighting, rescue, and emergency response. We are committed to maintaining readiness and professionalism in every situation.

Our Equipment:
We operate with well-maintained apparatus, including fire engines, a rescue unit, and brush firefighting equipment.

Community Involvement:
We participate in town events, offer station tours, and provide fire safety education in local schools.

Fire Safety & Education

Fire Safety & Education

 Fire prevention begins at home. Follow these safety tips and share them with your family:

Smoke Alarm Safety

  • Install alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home
  • Test alarms monthly
  • Replace batteries once a year
  • Replace alarms every 10 years
     

Escape Planning

  • Draw and post a fire escape plan for your home
  • Identify two exits from every room
  • Practice drills twice a year
  • Set a family meeting spot outside
     

Heating Safety

  • Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from flammable materials
  • Turn off space heaters when leaving the room or sleeping
  • Get chimneys cleaned and inspected annually
     

Grill & Campfire Safety

  • Use grills at least 10 feet from your house or deck railings
  • Never leave a grill or fire unattended
  • Extinguish campfires completely with water or dirt
